Chief Gordon L Wiborg Jr. (Retired) hails from Yuma, Arizona. He was commissioned in 1974 as a Police Officer and in 1983 as an Armored Cavalry Officer upon graduation as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Minnesota State University – Mankato, after several years as a non-commissioned officer and enlisted soldier. Chief Wiborg has attended various military and civilian courses during his career to include Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Cavalry Leader Course, RECONDO, NBC/CBRNE Officer, Minnesota and Florida POST-certified State Police Academies, Police K-9 Handler, Police Investigations, Use of Force Instructor, Internal Affairs Investigations, IACP Police Management, Antiterrorism Officer Level II and Advanced Courses, Operations Security Officer Level II, FBI SWAT Basic and Advanced Courses, FBI Executive Command College, FBI LEEDA, and Federal Executive Development Seminar (FEDS).  His military assignments include Platoon Leader; Company Executive Officer; Company Commander; Squadron S-3 Air, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Germany; and Squadron S-4, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas. His civilian assignments include Patrol Officer and Juvenile/Narcotics Investigator, Fairmont, MN PD; Police Investigator, Patrol Sergeant, K-9 Handler and Trainer, Administrative Services Commander, Internal Affairs Investigator, SRT Commander, Operations and Administrative Services Commander, Deputy Director, North Palm Beach, FL Public Safety Department; Chief of Police, Snohomish, WA PD; Team Leader, Command Center, USARJ, Camp Zama, Japan; Security Division Chief, COR, Deputy Police Chief / Provost Marshal, Directorate of Emergency Services (DES), US Army Garrison, Hawaii; Antiterrorism Officer, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security (DPTMS), US Army Garrison, Hawaii; Chief, Plans and Operations, DPTMS, US Army Garrison, Yuma Proving Ground, AZ. (Retired May 2016).


Chief Wiborg earned a Bachelor of Science Degree (cum laude) with concentrations in Psychology,
Criminal Justice, Military History, and Public Administration. He has also earned FBI certification through the Executive Command College and LEEDA, and is POST-certified as a Police Officer in three states. He is SRT certified through the FBI, and has served as a SWAT Consortium Commander in Hennepin County, Minnesota, and Palm Beach County, Florida. He is a NIMS/ICS Battle Captain, and certified Antiterrorism Officer (Advanced). Chief Wiborg is a certified Critical Incident Stress Peer Counselor, and for several years served as President of the Minneapolis – St. Paul Metro Area Critical Incident Management Team. He coached community and high school wrestling teams for 25 years, and was the Coach selected for the first United States Sports Team to conduct an official visit to post-apartheid South Africa. He also served as President of Minnesota State Wrestling for several years, and as Head Official for several national-level events.

Wiborg's decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Overseas Service Ribbon, Distinguished Military Graduate, Police Life Saving Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Outstanding Police Service Award, Chief’s Award of Excellence (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Achievement Medal for Civilian Service (2 Oak Leaf Clusters) and Commander's Award for Civilian Service. He was selected as a George C. Marshal Awardee.
